See you luck! See you later!

Dear Nolan,

Every day since school started this year (2015-2016) when the older kids leave for school you tell them goodbye and I love you. At the beginning of the school year, you used to get upset and sometimes quite upset if they didn't say goodbye or I love you back. A couple times you chased after them on their bikes, trying to get them to say it back to you.

Then you started adding in good luck, and instead of saying goodbye you would say see you later. It became a ritual every time they left that went, "Goodbye, good luck, see you later." I don't know where you picked up the good luck part but it was thoughtful I thought. This little saying became so routine that you began saying it so quickly it evolved into this, "Bye, love you, see you luck, see you later." You mixed the 'good luck' with the 'see you' and got 'see you luck.' It became so endearing to use that now instead of you waiting for us to say I love you back, we wait for you to say this to us anytime any of us leave anywhere.

Today you went with me to the school to read books with Brendan in his class. We had to stop at the office first for Brooklyn to get a late slip because her brothers left her on their bike and she didn't want to ride her bike to school alone. So she came with us, late. Anytime we have gone into the office with the kids to get late slips this year (which as been probably 4 or 5, more than I like to admit) you have thrown a fit if you didn't get one too. A little pink piece of paper that has your name and the date on it. You of course never needed one but the Secretary in the office, Mrs. Griffeths always lets you have one too. For some reason getting a late slip is so exciting for you.
Jason forgot to take his viola to school so we brought it with us and after getting the late slip we went back out to the car to get it. On our way back in the school, you were holding my hand and out of nowhere (without any prompt or discussion), you looked up at me and said: "Mom the lady in the late slip room is really nice."

I was really impressed with the level of awareness that you had and also with your ability to sense and then verbalize such gratuitous feelings. I could tell that you really appreciated how she made you feel when she gave you a late slip each time and validated you in that act. I couldn't believe that as a two-year-old you were so aware and articulate in that awareness.

Daily I am impressed with your compassion, kindness and love for others around you. Later when we went to pick up the kids for lunch I ran into the office to tell Mrs. Griffeths what you said about her. She laughed and smiled and said that made her day. It made my day too!

Love,

Mom

8 months old

Three days ago you turned  months old.

Things I want to remember:
You started sucking your fingers at 3 months old and stopped at 7 months old (just like your sister Brooklyn) Sometimes I wish you still sucked those things. It was so darn cute and you would lay down so much easier. But at the same time I am glad you aren't addicted to them and it is so much easier for me when you stop on your own. I love that about it.

You started the army crawl at 7 months old. You are getting pretty quick. You know lots of words, but don't really know how to tell use yet that you know them.  I can say where is my nose, and you will look at my nose and I can say where are my eyes and you look at them and my mouth and chin too. You are starting to learn how to speak lots of sounds like dadada and babab and your most recent favorite is nanana. On occasion you say mamama. We like playing games together, like finding words that start with D, whenever I hear you say dadadad. Like the other day you were saying it while I changed your diaper, and when I was done we went around to all the bed room doors and I taught you the word door. We opened and closed the door and you touched the knob and patted the door with your hand. That is how you tell me you understand something or you like it. You reach out with your hand and pat it. It is my favorite when I tell you something new and you tap my face. Then I know you really got it!

You have a hard time taking your 9 o'clock nap lately, and usually end up taking one at 11 or so. You still wake up around 10 or 11 pm and 4 am, but you go to bed around 6 or 7 pm. Now that you are 8 months old I need you to sleep through the night please. Could you do that for me? I do like however that you are my 4 or 5 am wake up call. There is no chance I would be getting up on my own otherwise.

Jan. 2014 week 2

I can't believe the second week of January has come and gone so quickly already!
After we got back from the Delta trip, Your dad and I decided that we would try to get you to learn to sleep through the night. So...we let you cry all night. That lasted up to about Wednesday. That night was the worst by far! You were up a couple times and Brendan was puking all night long. I didn't sleep a wink. No one was getting any sleep. (We get grumpy around here without sleep) and I read some more in the healthy sleep habits book and decided you were doing ok waking up one or two times at night still so we are going to hold off on the sleeping through the night training. For another month or so. We will see how it goes.

Jan. 2014 week one

The first week of January was a big week for you.

Monday was technicaly December (but it was in the week so we will count it). That was your first trip to Grandma Lisonbee's house. We showed up to a house full of people. Just about all of the Lisonbees were there. Grandma soaked up every minute she could get with you and you were just as sweet as you always are.

You slept all night that night. I couldn't believe it. I decided you had been so tired from not getting good naps. But then the next day you didn't get good naps either, and it must have caught up with you because you screamed all night the second night.

Tuesday was New Years eve. You officially turned 7 months old. You were my New Years kiss this year. I think it is going to be a good year!

I think you were happy to be home by Wednesday and sleeping in your own bed. I know Brooklyn was too because Brooklyn was sick all day Tuesday.

Thursday Grandma Christian came over to baby sit you for a couple hours and when she left you waved goodbey to her for the first time. She was so excited she was your first wave.

Friday You Crawled! For the first time and I got it on video. You looked like it was easy for your first time. You seemed to enjoy it.

Saturday we got everything in the house all cleaned up and ready for church to start and 9 AM the next morning and you wore your cute new church tie that matches your brothers and Dad's you all looked so good Sunday morning!

It's a boy

Dear Nolan,
When you were still in my tummy, I used the ultrasound machine at work to peak inside my stomach and see you. I wanted see your cute little face and your tiny fingers and toes. I also wanted to see if I could tell if you were a girl or a boy. I wanted a girl so Brooklyn could have a sister. It was a Sunday night. I wasn't very skilled at working the ultrasound machine and there was no one else around that knew how to work it any better than I did. I peeked at you and I could tell you were so cute already, but I couldn't tell very well if you were a girl or a boy. I suspected that you were a boy, because I thought I saw boy parts, but I wasn't very sure. I went home sad. The next morning my visiting teachers came over to visit me. We talked about how I looked on the ultrasound machine at work and how I was sad because I thought you might be a boy. They both have two boys and two girls in their families and they both explained how each of their patriarchal blessing specifically say your sons and daughters when speaking of their children. Right then I knew you were going to be a boy and I was completely happy about it. Because in my patriarchal blessing when it talks about my kids it says your children. I knew you were supposed to be a boy and that Brookie would probably never had a sister in our family. I was ok with all of it because I knew it was meant to be that way.

First sounds and eating

Dear Nolan,

About a week and a half ago you started saying da da da da. You don't do it all the time, in fact you don't even do it every day. So it is such a special treat when you do say it. Yesterday I was in the SUU bookstore with you and you were saying da da da da. Then you would echo me back if I said it to you. It was a fun game we were playing. The entire time we were in the store you were such a good boy. You didn't fuss or cry. You just let me hold you and you sucked your fingers and talked with me while I found what I needed. You have always been such a good content little sweet boy for me with a bunch of crazy older siblings. Some days it blows me away how good you are. I love you so much. You are growing so perfectly well. I have been feeding you baby food gradually for about two months now. At first you didn't do so well with it, and I would only feed you once a day and sometimes only every other day or so. Now you are getting good at opening your mouth when I put the spoon up to it and only a tiny bit comes back out when you close your mouth to swallow (instead of the whole thing). You still have a hard time with more chunky things. But you are learning and growing up so fast. I love how your whole face lights up when you see me. And you get bright twinkly eyes when I read words with you or take your finger and point to my nose. You can sit up and play with toys, but sometimes you tip over. You are super good at rolling around on the floor. But you would prefer to be held, or jump in your jumper. You are an expert jumper. I love that your older siblings take good care of you too. Brendan is the best at playing with you. Jason is the best at getting you up and changing your diaper when I am busy and Brooklyn, well she is really good at making you nervous. Whenever she comes around you wine or cry. She loves to love you and she usually isn't very soft about it. Her favorite thing is to smother you with big hard squeez-y hugs and rub her face all over yours to get the most love out of you as possible. For you it is a bit scary, but for her she has the best intentions and loves every minute of it. I love your soft dimples and your big wide smile!

Love,
Your Mom
